How Tariffs Impact the U.S. Market and Why Credit Union Membership Provides Stability
Tariffs have long been a tool used in global trade to influence economic policies, protect domestic industries, and sometimes serve as leverage in international negotiations. However, they can also create volatility in financial markets, affecting everything from stock prices to consumer goods costs. With the ongoing uncertainty surrounding tariffs and their impact on the U.S. economy, having your money in a stable, member-focused institution like SRI Federal Credit Union is more important than ever. Tariffs are essentially taxes imposed on imported goods, which can lead to higher costs for businesses and consumers. Over the years, we’ve seen how tariffs on steel, aluminum, and other key materials have increased production costs for American companies, leading to higher prices on everything from cars to household appliances. Additionally, retaliatory tariffs from other countries can hurt U.S. exports, negatively impacting industries like agriculture and manufacturing. Financial markets tend to react sharply to tariff announcements. Uncertainty about trade policies can cause fluctuations in the stock market, affecting investment portfolios, retirement savings, and overall consumer confidence. For individuals and businesses alike, these swings can create stress and financial instability. While the broader economy may be affected by trade disputes and tariff policies, credit union members can take comfort in the security and stability of their funds. Here’s why banking with SRI Federal Credit Union is a smart choice in uncertain times: While tariffs and trade policies can create uncertainty, you don’t have to let them disrupt your financial security. By keeping your funds in a trusted institution like SRI Federal Credit Union, you benefit from stability, competitive financial products, and personalized service that puts your needs first. If you’re looking for a secure place to manage your money in unpredictable times, we’re here to help. Visit us today to learn more about how we can support your financial well-being—no matter what the economy throws our way.The Effects of Tariffs on the Economy

SRI Federal Credit Union: Built to Last, Secured for You
There has been some recent confusion regarding DOGE and the use of the word “Federal” in “SRI Federal Credit Union.” We want to take this opportunity to clarify key facts and reassure our valued members that their financial security remains our top priority. First and foremost, DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) is a government administration but does not have access to any SRI Federal Credit Union member information. Your data remains private and secure, protected by industry-leading security measures. We have also received inquiries about DOGE and Elon Musk, specifically whether they have access to member funds or if our federal funding could be revoked. To be clear, neither Elon Musk nor DOGE has access to any member data, and we are not federally funded. As a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution, we operate independently. However, we are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), meaning your deposits are insured up to $250,000 per account. Additionally, accounts can be structured to increase NCUA insurance coverage, offering even greater protection for your funds (read the full “How Your Accounts are Federally Insured Brochure” by clicking HERE). SRI Federal Credit Union is built to last. Our foundation is strong, and our commitment to serving our members remains steadfast as we continue to grow and adapt in an evolving financial landscape. If you have any questions or would like to learn more, we invite you to join our annual meeting on Wednesday, March 19th at 12 noon. The event will take place at the SRI International building, with virtual attendance available via ZOOM. ZOOM Information: Thank you for your trust in SRI Federal Credit Union. We look forward to serving you for many years to come!

Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.: Financial Empowerment and the Credit Union Movement
As we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this month, we’re reminded of his unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and the empowerment of communities. While Dr. King is most renowned for his leadership in the civil rights movement, his vision extended beyond social equality to include economic empowerment—a principle that aligns closely with the mission of credit unions like SRI Federal Credit Union. Dr. King understood that economic opportunity was a critical component of true equality. He often spoke about the importance of addressing systemic economic disparities and creating pathways for marginalized communities to achieve financial stability and independence. In his final years, Dr. King advocated for the Poor People’s Campaign, a movement focused on economic justice, fair housing, equitable wages, and access to financial resources. His vision resonates deeply with the philosophy of credit unions, which were founded on the principles of people helping people. Like Dr. King, credit unions seek to empower individuals and communities by providing equitable access to financial services, promoting financial literacy, and prioritizing the needs of members over profits. Credit unions play a key role in fostering economic inclusion, particularly for underserved populations. Through affordable loans, low fees, and community-driven initiatives, credit unions work to ensure everyone has access to the tools they need to build a brighter financial future. This mission is rooted in the same ideals that Dr. King championed—creating systems that uplift and support all members of society, especially those who have been historically excluded. At SRI Federal Credit Union, we carry this legacy forward by offering products and services that prioritize fairness and accessibility. From financial education resources to personalized loan options, we strive to empower our members to achieve their financial goals and build stronger communities. In honoring Dr. King’s legacy, we encourage our members to reflect on their own financial journeys and take steps toward greater financial empowerment. Whether it’s setting a budget, building an emergency fund, or exploring options for a small business loan, these actions can help create lasting economic stability—not just for individuals, but for entire communities. Dr. King’s dream was not just about civil rights—it was also about ensuring everyone had the opportunity to thrive. At SRI Federal Credit Union, we remain committed to advancing that dream by being a trusted financial partner for our members and a force for good in our community. This MLK Day, let’s honor his legacy by continuing to work toward economic justice and equality. Together, we can help build a future where everyone has access to the opportunities they need to succeed. “An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.” – Martin Luther King Jr. Let’s carry forward this spirit of shared purpose, one step at a time.Dr. King’s Vision for Economic Justice
